Defensive Carbine Fundamentals 1 is an introductory defensive carbine course for all new 540 students. It lays the essential foundation for safe, practical, and proven carbine handling skills — specifically with the AR-15 in a defensive situation. You will learn administrative actions with a carbine, including safe handling and storage considerations, presentation, slinging the weapon, trigger control, and reloads.

Required Equipment:

• Standard range attire while conducting firearms training (weather-appropriate activewear, etc.)
• Semi-automatic carbine (AR-15) w/ at least three magazines
• 300 rounds of carbine ammunition
• Support-side magazine carrier(s)
• Sling
• Belt for range work compatible and magazine carrier
• Wrap around eye protection for daylight / current conditions. We strongly recommend ANSI Z87+ high impact approved glasses.
• Hearing protection. We strongly recommend electronic hearing protection with a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of at least 25db.
